Incident Description: Suicide attack
Summary of Case
On 29 February, 2008, a reporter for The Nation, Siraj ud Din, was killed in a suicide bombing that took place at the funeral of DSP Javed Iqbal in Mingora city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Siraj was wounded in the attack and later succumbed to the injuries. A report published in Dawn said Iqbal and three constables were killed in a roadside bomb blast in KP's Lakki Marwat district.
Later, in the attack during Iqbal's funeral, the police officer's close relatives, including his son and brother-in-law, were also killed.
Updates
In 2016, it was announced that a monument would be built in Swat to honour Siraj. According to police, no one was arrested and there were no proceedings in the case. The file was closed due to threats from the Taliban.
