Summary of Case
On September 21, 2012, a driver for ARY News, Muhammad Aamir Liaquat, was killed when police opened fire on demonstrators staging a violent protest outside a cinema in Peshawar against the ‘Innocence of Muslims’ video. Liaquat received a bullet in his chest when he was trying to reach a location where the police was targeting protesters with live rounds. According to Dawn, police said Liaquat had received three bullets.
He was accompanied by his team covering protests outside the cinema. As per the report, a spokesperson for the Lady Reading Hospital said they had received five bodies including Liaquat's, adding that over 50 others were injured. Liaquat passed away while at the hospital. Capital City Police Officer Imtiaz Altaf had said that a judicial inquiry was ordered into Liaquat's killing which was meant to identify the prime suspect.
