Incident Description: Shot Dead
Summary of Case
On December 14, 2010, a senior journalist and president of the Khuzdar Press Club, Mohammad Khan Sasoli was gunned down in Khuzdar in central Balochistan. According to Dawn, a police officer said Sasoli, who was a correspondent for Royal TV and the daily Daily Balochistan Times, was attacked by armed men in the Civil Colony area. Additionally, sources were quoted saying that the attackers fled on a motorcycle after opening fire.
He received four bullets in his head and chest. Sasoli was taken to a hospital but died before receiving treatment. Police had registered a case on behalf of the state under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. According to police, different police parties were formed to trace the killers but they couldn’t apprehend any of the accused.
Updates
On March 18, 2013, police sealed the case due to no clues about the killers and the case was to be reopened once the accused were apprehended by them. According to Sasoli’s close relative, Mohammad Adil, police personnel had visited them a few times for an investigation into the case and they asked the family to provide evidence about killers involved in the case.
