Summary of Case

On March 1, 2013, a correspondent for the Urdu-language newspaper Daily Intekhab, Mehmood Ahmed Afridi, 56, was gunned down by unidentified men on a motorcycle. The incident occurred in Kalat district of the Balochistan province. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack. President of the Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ), Essa Tareen, had condemned the murder. He told PPF that Afridi was sitting in a Public Call Office (PCO) shop in the evening when two men riding a motorbike arrived on the scene and opened fire.

The journalist was shot four times and died on the spot. Afridi was also the president of the Kalat Press Club and had been working in journalism for about 20 years. He left behind a widow and four children.

Updates

Afridi's brother, Haji Saood, told PPF that no one was arrested for the late journalist's murder. He said that they had submitted an application but there had been no progress in the case. PFUJ President Shehzada Zulfiqar also said that no one was arrested and the case wasn’t investigated either.
