Incident Description: Shot during an armed attack

On May 28, 2010, a satellite technician of Lahore-based TV channel City 42, Ejazul Haq, was among the 94 people killed during an attack on the Ahmedi community in Lahore. The armed attack took place when gunmen stormed two Ahmadi places of worship in Lahore's Garhi Shahu and Model Town areas. A City 42 News Producer, Imtiaz Bhutta, told PPF that Haq was praying during the attack when the channel's news team contacted him, asking for coverage.

He was on a live beeper call when a bullet hit him on the left of his chest. Two hours into the attack, a rescue team transported him to the hospital where he was declared dead. Haq leaves behind a widow, two sons and two daughters. According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), one of the attacked places of worship was near Haq’s residence.

One of his colleagues told RSF that Haq rushed to the site and "was shot while giving the station a live report using his mobile phone”. “The station’s viewers heard the shots that killed him and his final words as he died,” the RSF report read, adding that at the time it was unclear if the shots were fired by Taliban gunmen or by the police.

The then Interior Minister Rehman Malik had announced financial assistance of Rs500,000 for Haq's family and during a visit to the City 42 office had said that the government would provide free education to Haq’s children.
